Yes, PR Prowler is a great tool to find highly relevant link
partners with decent PR. But sometimes we receive emails from
users asking for other ways to use PR Prowler, or how we use it
ourselves. This is a great question, because when you use a tool
that streamlines the most tedious tasks in your link acquisition
process you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to
creative ways you can use that tool to take advantage of the fact
that it does all the hard work.
That last sentence was kind of a mouthful, so let me explain.
Consider the way most people find link partners without PR
Prowler. They have to manually type in their chosen keyword in
Google one at a time, then search through the search engine
results to find “potentials”, then actually visit each “potential”
and look quickly to see if they have a ton of outgoing links on
the page they want their link on, then wait for the little green
bar to display that page’s PR, then check Google for the number of
backlinks that site has, then IF that page fits as a real
“potential” look for a contact point or a feedback page, then log
all of this data to a spreadsheet. That’s 1 “potential”. And not
every one they visit will be real “potentials”, so they will have
to do this probably 10 or 20 times for each 1 they find and add to
their spreadsheet. Then after a few weeks or months their
spreadsheet should have a decent number of “potentials” so they
can go ahead and start manually contacting each one with a
creative offer (read the article “Reciprocal
Linking That Works”) to get a link. There goes another few
weeks or months. Poor buggers.
Ok, back to my point. This is how most people would go about
finding potential link partners, right? Using this method you can
see that it’s almost impossible to tweak this extremely tedious
process with other goals in mind, besides just finding potential
link partners. What I mean is, what if they wanted to find only
sites that actually contain a certain phrase within one of their
pages, like “submit URL” or “add link”? Or what if they wanted to
find only personal web sites that have a high PR but have no idea
that there is actual value in PR? Or what if they wanted to create
a “potential link partners” list for 10 keywords for 25 other
completely different websites (that’s 250 more keywords)? You see
what I’m getting at? They would have to run through that insanely
repetitive, mundane, dreadful process for each and every keyword.
How long would that take them? Right, forever.
You probably see my point by now. With PR Prowler doing all the
leg work for you, you can get creative and search for things that
you would never be able to find manually. With that said, here are
a few ways that you can use PR Prowler as a Power User to get the
most out of this gem:
Power Tip #1 >> Look for personal sites with high PR. There
are millions and millions of web sites out there on absolutely
every topic imaginable. Wouldn’t it be valuable to have a list of
sites that are run by regular folks that have personal sites that
are relevant to yours and have high PR, but have no idea the value
of their site? Wouldn’t it be relatively easy to get these people
to link to your great site? These people aren’t webmasters or
business owners, heck they probably aren’t even very web-savvy,
they simply have a web site that they work hard on to publish
their information to the web. A lot of times these sites are chock
full of content and because of that are extremely valuable link
partners because they have a ton of natural backlinks pointing to
them. So, how do you find them using PR Prowler? You have to be
creative. Since these a personal sites, a lot of these people
probably use a free web host like Geocities, DotEasy, Hypermart,
Freewebs etc. And most of these free web hosts put a “powered by”
or “hosted by” statement somewhere on the page. So, you simply
look for that statement that is on every page hosted by that free
host, then put that statement into PR Prowler (in quotes, exactly
as it appears on the pages being hosted by the free hosts) along
with your keywords and let PR Prowler uncover these gems for you.
Or you can look for certain phrases like “my recipes site” if you
are looking for recipe related pages. I just slapped this exact
phrase into PRP and found these gems in 10 seconds: http://filmplus.org/recipes/ and http://www.911cheferic.com. PR Prowler will find tons of personal sites like this for you,
you just have to be creative and tell it what to look for.
Power Tip #2 >> Make money using PR Prowler. Again, there
are millions and millions of web sites out there on absolutely
every topic imaginable. But good luck finding all those related to
a specific category manually. With PR Prowler, this task is easy
and you can create powerful lists of potential link partners for
any keyword market. Think about that. You can use that power to
make money using PRP as your “secret weapon”. Simply by creating
laser targeted link partner lists for others. You could post a
couple example link partner lists to a portfolio then sell your
services to others. They have no idea that all you are doing is
running PR Prowler and giving them the output. For all they know
this is a manual process that takes you hours to create for them.
Power Tip #3>> Contact your competitors’ link partners.
This feature of PR Prowler is often overlooked. All you do is set
the Options to show only those sites that have a contact page
(this will look for all possible contact page name variations such
as contactus.html, contactus.php, contact.html, contactus.asp,
feedback.html, about.php, etc.), then set your criteria in PRP to
“0” and 1000 results, then “Prowl URLs” for a few of your
competitors’ URLs and select the “Prowl Backlinks” checkbox. PR
Prowler will return the list of all the backlinks for you
competitors and the exact page where they can be reached. Now you
simply contact them with a juicy offer (read the article “Reciprocal
Linking That Works”). This is not spam at all, as you are
simply using their posted information to get in touch with them,
and PR Prowler did all the work to find them. Sweet, huh?
Power Tip #4>> Drill down to pin-point exact pages. When
you use the manual method to find link partners described above
this tactic is almost impossible. You would have to read the
entire page for all “potentials” to look for specific words within
those pages to pin-point what you are looking for. Since the
search engines rank pages based on keywords and keyphrases, if you
simply added the pin-point words to your search query it would
take forever to find the best “potentials”. For example, let’s
assume you want to trade links with sites about model trains. You
would be looking for certain words such as “add URL”, “submit
site”, “link to us”, “exchange links” etc. - these are your
pin-point words. But if you simply add them to your search by
searching for “add URL model trains” you will get a list of sites
that contain all four of those words, sure, but you won’t get the
list of the best sites for “model trains” that happen to contain
your pin-point phrases. What you will get is sites that Google
says are the best matches for that exact phrase, when what you are
looking for is sites that are the best matches for “model trains”.
See what I mean? What you need to do is find sites that are
excellent model train sites that happen to contact your pin-point
phrase(s), and doing this manually is very difficult. With PRP,
all you do is specify your pin-point words (one per line) in the
Options before you start your query, then do a regular Keyword
Prowl for your targeted keywords, in this case “model trains”. The
program will search through the top results for “model trains” and
then search through each page very quickly and efficiently for
your pin-point words. This will create a laser-targeted list of
potential link partners that contain only the exact pin-point
phrase you are looking for. And this is just one example. Your
pin-point phrases can be things like “advertise with us” or
“search our site” or “we recommend these” or “phone us”… and on
and on.
I could go on and on listing more and more ways to use PR Prowler
to your advantage, but I’m already close to 1500 words here and
you may be drifting off by now (not everyone gets as excited about
this stuff as I do, for some odd reason). But the main point of
this article is to get you thinking about how you can use PR
Prowler creatively. PR Prowler is an extremely powerful program
and if you think outside of the box a little you will soon realize
its true power.
